The trichoscopy procedure, or trichoscopy, is based on the observation of the hair and skin of the scalp, most often by using a videodermoscope camera which captures the image, which is then displayed on a computer monitor. This procedure is completely non-invasive and painless. During the procedure, three scalp areas are examined – the frontal, temporal and occipital areas. The person performing the procedure may use during the procedure a liquid that improves the adherence of the camera to the hair and scalp.
The trichoscopy does not require any hair plucking, which makes it a much more comfortable procedure compared to, for instance, a trichogram.
Because the test is non-invasive and painless, it is much easier to decide to repeat it to assess the efficacy of treatment.
